The "regular" Fenix II

Now I am ready to start making the final work plans.

2010-11-22

Scale and size !

I often get suspicious comments from regular folks about this project.

" They would have done this already if this worked etc !"

Who is they ?

Aerodynamical engineers are busy with airliners and military designs. Only person who has really oriented in this scale is mr Colombani ( Mc30 Luciole, Mc15 Cri Cri ). Why would anyone try to design seriously a plane that cost only 5 - 10 000 usd to build ?

Only big money like the GFC race once in a while put somee speed into this kinda designs...like the PC Aeros ELEKTRA ONE !

OK the Pelican also flew with only 9 hp engine; http://www.nurflugel.com/Nurflugel/n_o_d/weird_06.htm

------------------------

My designs all base on diminutive innovations where weight and overall size can be saved through spatial and structural thinking.

Besides also real life elsewhere has small designs...like Go-Kart cars...and F430 Spider Ferrari !

FANLINER

I figure this could be possible;

There is 17 hp / passenger ( 10 hp more than in a Fenix II ! ).

This needs 1/3 horsepovers compared to Cessna 206 and similar tractor designs.

Also FANLINER could be 1/3 priced. Unfortunately the luggage is limited to 15 kg per passenger.

---------

It is possible that this plane can only carry 4 people with 2 of these very powerful 2-strokes; http://www.limflug.de/files/pdf/DS-L550E.pdf

I calculated a 85 € cost per passenger to fly back and forth to Madrid from Helsinki Finland with that Limflug powered Fanliner. ( 4 people on board distance 2950 km ).

Since engines only weigh 16 kilos I figured plane can be 330 kilos..passengers 400 kg with luggage ! Limflug 550 L can produce 52 hp.

Tuned 2-seater !

Ok here it is !

More window area and a seat for the backseated kid/gal !

This means that the pilot has to be max 170 cm tall and 70 kilos max. weight. Passenger in 150 cm and 40 kg max.

Still a 2-seater with sailplane wingloading ( 40 kg/m2 )!

The seating layout is familiar from the most efficient 4 seater ever THE WHITE LIGHTNING and will make it very efficient and gives possibility to make a slightly bigger version with 2 grown ups being able to fly it ( 180 - 250 ccm engines 2-stroke ). Making it still moderatly efficient since top speed will increase to 250-300 km/h.

This is also 2 seater !

I have now figured that a small pilot flying also a teenager can fit in ! Cool or what ? This is not only the smallest twin ever, but also the smallest two seater ever !

I bet the Cri Cri flyers are going to rip their pants when they see this ? I hope not.

This possibility makes this aircraft an instant winner since the fuel efficiency is being measured by passenger kilometers for each passenger !

YAHOO ! Yippee ! Giddy up !

Preliminary construction schemes !

The target is to keep weight at 60 kilos thus enabling 10 liters of fuel onboard and still needing no lisence to build or fly !

Plane would be a lot safer than many other similar sized planes because of its twin 4-strokes engines and relatively low speed and low weight yet sturdy construction.

In this 10 liter tank size it can fly from Oulu to Helsinki ( 550 km ) at less than 10 liters at over 200 km/h. This cuts the regular journey to half in time ( with a car ) and fuel costs to 40 €:s. If we are lucky and skillful the plane weighs only 55 kilos and makes it able to fly 900-1000 km with one full tank. Auxiliary 25-30 liter tank is possible as well. Thus 2500-3000 km flight is in prospect as we go for the FAI records for real !

My possible CAFE GFC entry !

I say possible since I haven't signed in yet.

Here it is FENIX II vt

Engine is most likely Rotomotor 85FS ! Yes really...that small..but you should see the intented prop first !

I found out that it burns 2 l / h at 92% power ( 5500 rpm ). This is the most efficient aviation engine ever built.

ROTO 85FS actually does weight 2800 grams ( almost ) but the extra weight compared to similar powered 2-stroke is insignificant. More torque means also a higher pitched prop...and we all know what that means in an aircraft where you cannot change the pitch inflight don't we ?

4-stroke model engine

I found this; Rotomotor 85FS...5.8 hp at 27/10 prop !

Really cool sounding engine.

Old design recycled ?

I display this partially lifting body ac...with three engines.

What do you say...this could be a winner with right tactics ?!

I mean using all small engines on take off and feather the middle engine while attempting to fly economically ?

I figure 3 x 5-6 hp is enough..that means a 30-50 ccm engines each.

-------------

here is on engine maker with just several suitable engines...and they ain't expensive.

Is Air Power Technologies right in their figures ?

I saw that 6.4 cu in burned only 0.3 oz in min at 65% power. This is 1/7 of smaller DA-85 engines.

I am afraid something is wrong here now. Any recommendations for an engine ?
