Paint job..what will it weigh and why ?!

Here is chart for new passenger liner fuselage paint job:

http://www.boeing.com/commercial/aeromagazine/aero_05/fo/fo01/table1.html

INSERT:

Less paint reduces takeoff weight and fuel consumption considerably. The weight of paint for a typical decorative paint scheme varies among Boeing airplanes. Note that the paint weights given are representative of a typical paint scheme with a 4-mil* (0.1016-mm) paint thickness. Paint thickness varies between 3.5 to 5.5 mil (0.0889 to 0.1397 mm).
*mil=0.001 in

This is estimate for new aircraft fuselage paint. As we all know wings will have to painted on both sides.

Not long a ago a testpilot commented about one old weary Fouga Magister of retired finnish air force plane's paint job he used to fly on occasions. He did not want it to be painted cause it would have been 100 kg altogether ( smoothing, primer, paint, lacquer ). I kept this figure pretty high. So did the test pilot and they never painted it. Reason could have also been that the pilot is very lite and paint would have increased the weight in the rear of the craft more ( few kilos anyhow ).

According to the Boeing provided data the pure paint is way less than 100 kg for a small plane like that. This is undoutably true. But if you paint an old ac that have lotsa scratches and dents here and there the job is little different.

I wonder why Boeing made this remark if the paint is so lite as it seems:

Less paint reduces takeoff weight and fuel consumption considerably.

Any estimates what the filling of the gaps and primer + paint+ lacquer would weight in MAX III size plane ? I am not a specialist on this matter, but I need advice.

OK !

I found this; http://www.airbum.com/articles/ArticlePaint.html 40 -50 lbs for small plane.

  5. Itsellä lennokissa tuli painoa 20% lisää maalista ja primerista.

  8. Se oli kyllä järkytys..pohjustaminen oli huono. En tee sitä virhettä toiste.
